The purpose of The Read Program is to provide a literacy program for children 5 to 7 years of age. The sessions will last 1 hour a day, 2 times per week for 8 weeks. The minimum requirement to begin the session is 4 children.

This program will incorportate may tactile activities, such as making your own alphabet letter, books and creative art projects. We will also be incorporating singing, dancing and sports activites as we teach the alphabet, develop phonemic awareness, learn to read, spell, write, and learn math skills.

The sessions for The Read Program will be determined.

A typical session in The Read Program includes:

• Independent reading time upon arrival to Cincinnati Speech Services.
• Solve the Daily Message as a group.
• Shared reading lessons, which includes poetry in a pocket chart. Rhyming words and site words will be focused on in this session.
• Story read aloud with group and comprehension and prediction questions answered regarding story.
• Students choice a literacy center of their choice – writing, reading, listening, Drama, Computer, ABC Activities, Word building, and Reading around the room.
• During the literacy center, other children will be called for a Guided Reading Lesson.
• Students review reading strategies, discuss new vocabulary, read a new story and discuss what the story was about
