T.A.L.C. Time is a structured language group and is taught by a certified speech-language pathologist in a small group setting (3-4 children per group). Small groups are provided for children ages 2-5 who demonstrate severe expressive and receptive language disorders and associated inappropriate behavior. The activities and goals focus on developing communication, social skills, and play skills. T.A.L.C. Time utilizes sensory integration techniques and augmentative communication during each session.

The objectives for T.A.L.C. Time are:

• To encourage children to participate in turn-taking
• To encourage and maintain eye contact
• To encourage children to understand nonverbal body language
• To encourage children to use verbal language to communicate
• To encourage children to participate in activities with peers
• To encourage children to initiate peer interactions in conversation
• To encourage children to maintain topic during play and/or conversation
• To encourage children to regulate behavior around peers

Therapy is provided in a relaxed, friendly, positive child-based setting with structured activities. It is important to remember that group therapy is intended to help the children carry over what was learned during the individual therapy sessions.

The classes meet 1 hour each session, 1 time per week for 8 weeks (total of 8 sessions).

Activities during T.A.L.C Time include:

• Circle Time (social interaction, songs, and a brief introduction to the theme)
• Group Language
• Sensory Time
• Gross Motor Play
• Fine Motor Play

Parents will be provided with information pertaining to the T.A.L.C. Time day at the end of each week.
